A widely branching shrub or a small tree, with reddish-scurfy twigs; leaves not much reduced toward the ends of the branchlets, the blades elliptic, oval, obovate, or oblanceolate, 2.5-7 cm. long, acute, short-acuminate, or mucronate, glabrous above, red-scurfy beneath, short-petioled ; panicles short, often cluster-like, more or less leaf y-bracted ; caljrx 3.5-4 mm. wide, the lobes deltoid-ovate, abruptly pointed; corolla 2.5-3 mm. long; filaments puberulent; anthers nearly 1.5 mm. long; capsules oblong-ovoid to oval, 4-6 mm. long.
