Alternanthera sessilis (Sessile Joyweed) is a species of shrub in the family Amaranthaceae. They have a procumbent growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Pantanal, Amazônia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Northern Mariana Islands, Myanmar, Thailand, Asia, India, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Vietnam, Micronesia, Mato Grosso, Cerrado, Mata Atlântica, Roraima, Australia, Cambodia, Rio De Janeiro, Guam, China, Caatinga, Paraná, Pará, Indonesia, Bhutan, Singapore, SãO Paulo, Puerto Rico, Bahia, Santa Catarina, New Zealand, Espirito Santo, U.S. Virgin Islands, Minas Gerais, The Philippines, Acre (Brazil), Nepal, Palau, and Solomon Islands. They have capsule fruit. Flowers are visited by Ceylalictus aldabranus.
