They are native to Paraná, Ecuador, Paraguay, Espirito Santo, Ceará, Rio Grande Do Sul, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Bahia, Pampa, El Salvador, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Rio De Janeiro, Cerrado, Bolivia, Pernambuco, Colombia, Santa Catarina, Argentina, SãO Paulo, Uruguay, Mata Atlântica, and South America. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Derelomus, Stratiomys constricta, and Tachinid fly. Individuals can grow to 3.6 m.
