Leaves 5-12 cm. long ; blades pinnately divided, the segments oblong to ovate, pinnatifid or incisely toothed ; peduncles and pedicels more or less hirsute, rarely glandular ; sepals with short tips, which are furnished with 1 or 2 bristle-like appendages, the outer 6-7 mm. long, the bodies oblong or nearly so ; petals somewhat longer than the sepals ; anther-bearing filaments toothless ; style-column 3-4 cm. long, minutely pubescent.
Type locality : Europe.
Distribution : Southern Canada, United States, Mexico, and Central America. Introduced from Europe.
