A glabrous, or sparsely pilose, annual with erect or ascending, much-branched stems, which are 4-angled, sulcate and rather succulent. Lower leaves are spathulate in outline, coarsely dentate or pinnatifid and tapering to a winged petiole; cauline leaves are sessile, clasping and auriculate, oblong, pinnatipartite to pinnatisect into remote oblong lobes with denticulate margins and acute apex. Capitula radiate or discoid, in corymbose inflorescences, becoming cylindrical when fully open. Fruit is a cylindrical-ellipsoid, ribbed, appressed-hirtellous achene with truncate apex and deciduous, scabridulous white-hairy pappus.
