Prunulus fuliginosus Murrill, sp. nov
Pileus rather firm, conic to campanulate, umbonate, densely cespitose, 2-3 cm. broad; surface smooth, glabrous, moist, hygrophanous, blackish when young, becoming fuliginous and at length paler with age, the disk remaining fuliginous, striate on the margin: lamellae adnexed, rather broad, subcrowded, grayishwhite : spores ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, 6-7 X 3.5-4.5 ju: stipe cylindric, smooth, glabrous, paler than the pileus, hollow, whitishmycelioid at the base, about 6 cm. long, 2-4 mm. thick.
Type collected on a decayed balsam stump at Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Septem.ber 3, 4, 1911, W. A. Murrill b' W. Oilman Thompson (herb. N. Y. Bot. Gard.). Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
