Phellorinia is a genus of fungi in the family Phelloriniaceae of the order Agaricales. The genus is monotypic, and contains the single species Phellorinia herculeana, described by English naturalist Miles Joseph Berkeley in 1843 as P. inquinans.[2] This single species has currently (February 2021) 24 synonyms, and takes its epithet from the basionym Scleroderma herculeanum Pers.[3]
The spores were used for body decoration by Aborigines of the desert areas.[4]

Вид поширений у посушливих та пустельних регіонах на усіх материках крім Антарктиди. В Україні відоме єдине місцезнаходження на півночі Криму на березі висохлого соленого озера.
Молоде плодове тіло кулясте або яйцеподібне, з товстими міцеліальними тяжами біля основи. Екзоперидій, що одягає спочатку все плодове тіло, товстий, білий, розтріскується на великі лусочки. Зріле плодове тіло 6-26 см заввишки, має вигляд кулястої головки на довгій псевдоніжці, яка одягнена разом з головкою в ендоперидій, який на вершині голівки розкривається неправильним отвором. Псевдоніжка тверда, біля основи бульбоподібно потовщена, покрита лусочками, що відстають.
Зростає на піщаних грунтах і на солончаках, в пустелях і напівпустелях.
