Scyphosphaera apsteinii is a species of haptophytes in the family Pontosphaeraceae. They are native to Santa Catarina, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Rio Grande Do Sul, Rio Grande Do Norte, Paraná, and Rio De Janeiro. Dead Scyphosphaera apsteinii form calcareous oozes.

It accumulates more rapidly than any other pelagic sediment type, with a rate that varies from 0.3 - 5 cm / 1000 yr.
