Plants, leaves, and perichaetial leaves so closely resembling those of M. cirrosum var. stenophyllum that it is all but impossible to distinguish sterile plants; seta very rough with rather coarse papillae; capsules strongly ribbed; peristome scarcely different.
Type locality: On the slopes of Mount Avilla, near Caracas, alt. 5700 ft.
Distribution: On trees and shrubs; West Indies; Mexico; Central and South America.
