Taproot thick and long. Flowering stem 2-3 (4) m one per plant, 7-9 cm diam. near the base, hollow. Basal leaves with petioles up to 70 cm long. Tripinnate blades 20-70 cm x 20-40 cm. Upper leaves reduced to leaf sheath. Compound umbel very large, of numerous small umbels. Flowers white. V - mid-spring to mid-autumn. Fl - July-August. Fr - September. P - by seed. Self-sowing plant. Does well on moist soil and in a sunny position. Good for the tall herbaceous border or wild garden. Z 5 (4). New.

Distribution

Far East (Kamchatka, Sakhalin and southern Kuril Islands) and northern Japan. Together with other perennial species it develops a special tall herbaceous plant community, which can be seen along streams in forest clearings, in association with willow stands.
