本種魚為產量大之經濟性魚種，大多為底拖網所獲，肉質味道尚佳，有點似日本鯷，可用油炸或煮湯食用。在日本地區則經常以碳烤或曬乾鹽漬的方式食用。

體細長，呈圓筒狀。眼大。吻尖；口小，下頜稍長於上頜；上頜無齒，下頜有齒，舌齒退化或無。第一鰓弓上鰓耙長，達35-40。體被圓鱗，側線非常的明顯而發達。背鰭位於身體中央而略為前面的部位，後方靠尾柄處有一脂鰭；臀鰭在體的很後面，與脂鰭相對；胸鰭則在背鰭的正下方；叉型尾。體外表呈淡褐色，腹部為銀白色，體背約有十個左右的暗斑分布，兩側各有一條銀白色的縱帶。
棲地

主要棲息在70公尺至數百公尺深的底棲性魚類，屬於中深層的海水魚，喜歡生活於砂泥底層的環境。以海洋中小型浮游生物為主要食物。

Hàbitat
És un peix marí, bentopelàgic i de clima temperat (32°N-15°N, 101°E-149°E) que viu entre 70 i 430 m de fondària.[6][11]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba al Pacífic nord-occidental: el sud del Japó.[6][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans.[6]

Vissen Glossanodon semifasciatus is een straalvinnige vis uit de familie van zilversmelten (Argentinidae) en behoort derhalve tot de orde van spieringen (Osmeriformes). De vis kan een lengte bereiken van 25 centimeter.
Leefomgeving
Glossanodon semifasciatus is een zoutwatervis. De vis prefereert een gematigd klimaat en leeft hoofdzakelijk in de Grote Oceaan. De diepteverspreiding is 70 tot 430 meter onder het wateroppervlak.
Relatie tot de mens
Glossanodon semifasciatus is voor de visserij van aanzienlijk commercieel belang. In de hengelsport wordt er weinig op de vis gejaagd.
