Description: Characterized by generally mottled brown color; body with four broad diffuse dark bars; posterior part of spinous dorsal fin with large blackish spot; three or more spines in suborbital ridge; usually absent coronal spines; depth of body 2.3-2.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Usually occurs deep along drop-offs in caves and on rock walls, but in some locations with strong currents in shallow water amongst sponges (Ref. 48635). Also found in sand and mud bottoms in 42-110 m (Ref 90102).
