Spotted Velvetfish

Body ovoid and compressed, covered with velvety prickles. Preoperculum with 4 spines. Dorsal fin notched behind the 3rd spine. Body dark-brown with indefinite darker blotches.

分布於西太平洋區，由韓國、日本至臺灣。臺灣分布於南部及西部海域等。

小型至中小型魚類，無食用價值。

體延長，頗側偏，背、腹輪廓淺弧形，前部高，後部低租；頭中大，側扁，具棘和稜。口前位，斜裂；上下頜和鋤骨具絨毛狀齒；上咽喉具一齒板。前鰓蓋具尖棘4。體被特化之棘狀鱗。具鰾。背鰭連續，起始於眼眶後緣之上方，硬棘部低且具缺刻，具硬棘XI-XII，第I硬棘為標準體長的14-19%，軟條10-14；臀鰭亦低，具硬棘I，軟條11-13；臀鰭硬棘I，軟條2。體深褐色而有模糊的較深色斑塊，腹部較淡；背鰭硬棘部與體色略同，餘鰭一致為暗色。

主要棲息於砂泥底水域。
