Bichir /ˈbɪʃɪər/ dan reedfish terdiri daripada Polypteridae, suatu famili ikan bersirip ruji yang kelihatan kuno dan satu-satunya famili dalam order Polypteriformes.^[2]

Kesemua spesies berhabitiat di air tawar di Afrika tropika dan sistem Sungai Nil, sebahagian besarnya berpaya, dataran banjir cetek dan muara.

Bichir dianggap kumpulan bersaudara kepada kesemua ikan bersirip ruji lain yang masih wujud.^[3]^[4]
