Cleonus piger, the sluggish weevil, was discovered for the first time, infesting the roots of Pitcher's thistle, in 2013. It typically kills the plant and if it is an adult, the plant is killed before seeds can be produced. I had some technical problems this day, so the substrate-borne vibrations cannot be heard well in this video. But it is still cool to watch this species, one of the treehoppers with the coolest pronotums. Here you can see three adults in the wild, one of them signaling when it vibrates its abdomen.
