Vernonia gigantea (Giant Ironweed) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Canada and The Contiguous United States. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by American Bumblebee, Hylephila phylaeus, Honey bee, and Melissodes bimaculatus. Individuals can grow to 20 dm.
