They are native to Pará, Piauí, GoiáS, Amapá, Acre (Brazil), Minas Gerais, SãO Paulo, Pernambuco, Pantanal, U.S. Virgin Islands, Roraima, Rio Grande Do Sul, Sergipe, Mato Grosso, ParaíBa, Bahia, Afrotropics, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Santa Catarina, Pampa, Rio De Janeiro, Tocantins, Paraná, Caatinga, Cerrado, Alagoas, Rio Grande Do Norte, Puerto Rico, RondôNia, Amazônia, The Contiguous United States, Maranhao, Ceará, Espirito Santo, Distrito Federal, and Mata Atlântica. They have simple, broad leaves and white flowers. Flowers are visited by Red-billed gull and Paradise Shelduck. Individuals can grow to 1.6 m.
