Lined Hogfish

Adults reddish to purplish brown on head, body dull yellow; longitudinal row of 3 pale yellow spots along back; small black spot centered at base of caudal fin; 2 black spots on soft anal fin; large black spot on pelvic fins; blackish spot anteriorly on dorsal fin (Ref. 4392). Juveniles reddish brown with rows of white blotches and small spots; black spots on fins (Ref. 4392).

分布於印度-西太平洋區，包括索馬利亞、莫三比克、模里西斯、留尼旺到台灣、琉球群島海域等。台灣主要分布於南部、東南部及西南部等海域。

中小型之隆頭魚，肉含膠質，黏性強，十分美味，但是數量不多，在漁市場中偶爾會出現。小魚體色鮮明，可做為觀賞魚。以延繩釣或一支釣較容易上鉤。

體長型，側扁；頭尖，背鰭前方頭部輪廓稍凸。吻長。眼大，上位。頰部與鰓蓋被鱗；下頜少許被鱗；前鰓蓋骨緣裸露；背鰭基與臀鰭基鱗鞘發達。上下頜各二列齒，上下頜前側具 4犬齒，每側具一大圓犬齒。D. XII, 10； A. III, 12；P. 16； L.l. 31-32； G.R. 16-19；尾鰭截平；腹鰭圓形。體紅色，腹部黃紅色；體側約具三條深紅色縱紋，或不連續，中間夾雜許多呈縱列的暗色點，胸鰭基部具有一垂直的大黑斑。Masuda /et al/.(1984, p.195, fig. H)及Nakabo(2002, p.976)所記載之狐鯛(/Bodianus/ sp.)既為本種。

主要棲息於水深達50公尺以上的珊瑚礁海域。以底棲性的無脊椎動物，例如貝類和甲殼類等為食。
