This species is distinguished from its congeners in having the following characters: D1 III, D2 XII, D3 10; A I,18; lateral line discontinuous, first series with 16-18 pored scales, second series 15-17 notched scales; mandibular pore system 4+1+4; supraorbital cirrus simple and slender; nasal cirrus short and broad; body pink to light orange with 4 vertical or slightly oblique deep brown bars from behind pectoral fin base to caudal fin base, each broad bar edged with whitish border; caudal fin is pale with a brownish-black streak near its distal margin; indistinct sexual dichromatism, with spawning males possessing a blackish anal fin and spotted with melanophores on body, head, dorsal and pectoral fin rays (Ref. 79877).

Female members of the Tripterygiidae have eggs that are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114).

體形小,圓柱狀。上頜向後延伸至瞳孔前緣下方;雄魚吻部長於雌魚;齒小,上下頜具椎形齒;鋤骨及腭骨前端具齒群。眼眶上緣觸角寬大不分叉。鼻瓣膜寬短。頤部感覺孔 4 + 1 + 4。頭部、頂部、腹部及胸鰭基部無鱗。體櫛鱗。側線不連續,分為前後二段,前段側線為孔鱗16-18個,孔鱗側線從胸鰭基後方即稍下降,末端延伸至第二背鰭最後1鰭膜處;後段側線具1列缺刻鱗16-18個,末端止於尾柄。側線上鱗列 3 + 1 + 6。D. III + XII + 10; A. I + 18; P. ii-iii + 6 + vii (12-14);L.l. 33-35;Vert. 10 + 25。背鰭分三鰭,第一背鰭長度小於第二背鰭;臀鰭起始於第二背鰭第七至第八鰭條 (或側線第六孔鱗下方);胸鰭大,末端達第二背鰭末端。體粉紅色至亮橙色,具4橫向或傾斜黑色或棕色寬帶,邊緣白色;眼眶前具紅棕色條紋,眼眶至嘴部具紅色或黃色條紋,鰓蓋紅色或棕色,胸鰭基部具3紅色斑塊,尾鰭白色偏淡,末端黑棕色,背鰭及胸鰭鰭膜半透明,鰭條紅色,臀鰭白色或亮黃色,具2棕色橫帶與體側第二及第三橫帶相連;本種雌雄之間體色差異不明顯,雄魚繁殖期體側、眼眶前、眼眶下、鰓蓋、胸鰭、胸鰭基部及背鰭軟條部散布黑色素斑,臀鰭黑色。(李承運、林沛立2012/11編寫)

Enneapterygius shaoi

Enneapterygius shaoi is a species of triplefin blenny in the genus Enneapterygius.[2] It was described by Chiang Min-Chia and Chen I-Shiung in 2008.[3] The specific name honours the ichthyologist and marine ecologist Kwang-Tsao Shao of the Biodiversity Research Center at the Academia Sinica in Taiwan.[4] It occurs off the eastern and southern coast of Taiwan.[1]
