Slender Mudskipper

Distinguished by the following characteristics: no pelvic frenum, or if present, only visiblewith magnification; pelvic fins totally separate; D 1 short and rounded, brown inframarginal stripe terminating into a prominent black spot, no elongate spines; D2 with single dusky stripe mesially; dorsal fins not connected by membrane; Dl with 9'-11 spines; longitudinal scale count 52-70; head width 14.2-19.3% SL; pelvic fin length 11.7-15.1 % SL; length of anal fin base 17.8-21.1% SL; length ofD2 base 18.8-21.3% SL; total D2 elements 12-13; total anal fin elements 11-12; TRDB 14-20 (Ref. 5218).

An intertidal and amphibious air-breather that actively shuttling back and forth between rock pools and air (Ref. 31184).

The slender mudskipper (Periophthalmus gracilis) is a species of mudskippers native to marine and brackish waters of the eastern Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean where it is an inhabitant of the intertidal zone, capable of spending time out of water. This species can reach a length of 4.5 centimetres (1.8 in) SL.
