Description: Body white silver, vertical bars two broad brown reaches ventral contour, eye bar also brown but narrow; dorsal fin rear spot black. Snout length 2.7-3.6 in HL. Body depth 1.3-1.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oceanodromous. Migrating within oceans typically between spawning and different feeding areas, as tunas do. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起印度，東至日本南部，南至菲律賓、新幾內亞及印尼等。台灣目前發現於西部、小琉球及澎湖水域。

一般以潛水方式捕捉。為觀賞魚類，無食用經濟價值。

體高而呈卵圓形；頭部上方輪廓略為弧形，眼間凹入。吻尖而突，微呈管狀。前鼻孔具鼻瓣。前鰓蓋緣具細鋸齒；鰓蓋膜與峽部相連。兩頜齒細尖密列，上下頜齒各約9列。體被中型鱗片；側線向上陡昇至背鰭第XI棘至第1軟條下方而下降至背鰭基底末緣下方。背鰭單一，硬棘XI，軟條21-22；臀鰭硬棘III，軟條16-17。體銀白色；體側具2條延伸至背鰭、腹鰭及臀鰭且鑲暗褐色緣之寬黃褐色橫帶；頭部具暗褐色的眼帶，窄於眼徑，且僅延伸至喉峽部；眼前上緣至吻端另具1條暗色縱紋。背鰭及臀鰭銀白至淡黃褐色，背鰭軟條部另具1個鑲白緣之眼斑；腹鰭前緣銀白，後為黃褐色；尾鰭淡色，基部黃褐色及胸鰭淡色，基部黃色。/Chaetodon modestus/為同種異名。

主要棲息較深且有岩礁的大陸棚斜坡上，棲息深度幾可達200公尺，但亦可發現小魚活動於水深10公尺附近的濁水區。
