體較細長,呈長橢圓形,側扁;背部輪廓弧形,腹部輪廓與其同形。頭中小。眼中大。口大,斜裂;頜骨、鋤骨和腭骨均具呈絨毛狀齒。眶前骨及前鰓蓋骨均雙重緣,具細齒或小棘;眶上骨1棘;鰓蓋骨後緣無棘;間鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被圓鱗,易脫落,頰部1列鱗,鰓蓋亦被鱗;背前鱗數12-15;側線完全。背鰭單一,具深缺刻,背鰭鰭條數VII-1+9;臀鰭鰭條數III+9-10;尾鰭深叉形。體透明而散有黑色素點;背鰭硬棘部及尾鰭皆具黑緣。

Ambassis miops, commonly known as the flag-tailed glassfish, is a species of fish in the family Ambassidae. It is native to eastern Australia.[2] It is found only in a few coastal sites along the North Queensland coast. A distinguishing feature of this species is a tiny spine is situated above the rear corner of the eye.[3]
