Pagrus auratus és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels espàrids.[5]

Descripció

  • Pot arribar a fer 130 cm de llargària màxima[6] (normalment, en fa 40)[7] i 20 kg de pes.[8][9]

Alimentació

Menja crustacis (crancs, gambes, etc.) i, en segon terme, cucs marins, estrelles de mar, eriçons de mar i peixos.[10][11]

Hàbitat

És un peix d'aigua marina i salabrosa, oceanòdrom,[12] associat als esculls rocallosos[13] i de clima subtropical (44°N-47°S) que viu entre 0-200 m de fondària.[14][9]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba a Nova Zelanda,[15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28] Austràlia,[29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42] les illes Filipines, Indonèsia, la Xina,[43] Taiwan i el Japó (les poblacions dels hemisferis nord i sud són independents i aïllades, però són prou similars com per a ésser declarades la mateixa espècie).[44][10][9][45][46][47]

Ús comercial

En l'actualitat, no és criat en aqüicultura però és considerat un bon candidat per a ésser-ho en un futur.[48][49][50]

Observacions

És inofensiu per als humans i la seua esperança de vida és de 35 anys.[51][9]
